Queensgate International School Diploma (OSSD)

Your Path to Success

At Queensgate International School, students must meet specific requirements to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). These requirements ensure a well-rounded education that prepares students for future academic and career success.

The requirements vary depending on when students start Grade 9. Students beginning in 2023 or earlier need 30 credits, while those starting in 2024 or later need 31 credits including a new STEM requirement.

Beyond credit requirements, all students must complete additional requirements including financial literacy, literacy testing, and community service hours.

Group Requirements

1 credit from each of Groups 1, 2, and 3

Group Requirements (3 credits total):

Group 1: English, French as a second language, Native languages, First Nations/Métis/Inuit studies, classical studies and international languages, social sciences and humanities, Canadian and world studies, guidance and career education, cooperative education, American Sign Language, Langue des signes québécoise.
Group 2: Health and physical education, the arts, business studies, French as a second language, cooperative education, American Sign Language, Langue des signes québécoise.
Group 3: Science (Grade 11 or 12), technological education, French as a second language, computer studies, cooperative education, American Sign Language, Langue des signes québécoise.
Note: Up to 2 credits in French as a second language (1 from Group 1 and 1 from either Group 2 or 3); Up to 2 credits in cooperative education from any group.

  • Earn 12 optional credits through courses in the school's program calendar
  • Up to 4 credits from approved dual credit programs

Beyond credit requirements, all students must complete these essential graduation requirements

Starting 2025

Financial Literacy

As part of the compulsory Grade 10 mathematics course, students must achieve a mark of 70% or higher to pass this requirement.

This ensures students have essential financial knowledge for their future.

OSSLT or OLC4O

Literacy Requirement

Students must meet the provincial literacy standard by either passing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or completing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O).

Queensgate offers the OLC4O course for students who need to fulfill this requirement.

40 Hours Required

Community Involvement

Complete a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid community service. This requirement helps students gain civic awareness, impact their communities, and explore career options.

About the OLC4O Course

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O) is designed for students who need to fulfill the literacy requirement for graduation. This course focuses on developing the reading and writing skills necessary to succeed in school and beyond.
